Application procedure and experience:
The application process was easy to manage. First, I applied online and then I send the dossier. There was no special request about the documents except the usual required documents and the language certificate. I think that the main criteria for selection are the grade point average and the motivation letter.
My experience during this short period of my stay was really nice in general. Even though there are exceptions like in some subjects Italian books are more complete than the English ones and Italian students take the advantage of this. The lectures were really important and the professors were student oriented. On the other side all the exams are written exams and some professors evaluate with the prejudice of being international student and not Italian one. If we compare the availability of the library I can say that it works less than in our home country. In my home country there was an open classroom to study non-stop, here only one of the classrooms is open till 23:30, some days during the week.
My personal experience is really nice and worth to live it. My first impressions are that Italian citizens are very helpful and they are there whenever you need any help. The system here is well organized and the professors do the maximum to explain the subject. They are very prepared and if you do not enter the lectures you lose so much. For my 5 month experience I think that I have absorbed so much knowledge from these professors. Hope to continue like this. The university has so many student associations, which are active and compete with each other to organize trips, cultural events, student parties and other activities. These events make possible introducing other students mostly international ones.
I have won the Alta Scuola Politecnica scholarship. It covers the tuition fees and accommodation cost( and some pocket money which remains from the accommodation) I can say that in general it covers like 70-75% of the expenses of living here in Como.
I booked an accommodation from Macedonia with the help of the online university service. I am very satisfied from my accommodation it is fifteen minutes by walk far away from the university and it is a 4 people flat.
Well about the administration I think that this is the worst thing in Italy. The bureaucracy exits like in most of the countries. You have to go like at least 3 times to the bank to open an account. Concerning the health insurance when I first came I was not allowed to do the full insurance because of not having the residence permit, from the university I was suggested to do the private insurance which covers only the emergency cases. The carrier service is one of the best supports for students here in Politecnico. It supports politecnico students for all internship and job possibilities.
As an conclusion …
I would want to say that before coming to study in a foreign country, better is first to take a course for learning the language of that country that you plan to study, at least the basic things. This would help the students to get used faster in the new country.
